Design Classics

The bed linen designs vary from the simplicity of classic corded to elaborate embroidery. Peter Reed bedding is unsurpassed in comfort, luxury and everlasting quality and has established the ultimate standards in supreme elegance and class.

Their elite collection of percale bed linen is produced from Egyptian cotton, the paramount ingredient of unique quality and comfort. Unfortunately photos cannot do the Peter Reed bedding justice, but see the wonderful range of duvet covers, fitted sheets, flat sheets and pillowcases available.

Using only the very best materials and craftsmanship, Peter Reed has been manufacturing in Lancashire since 1861 and has been traditionally associated with English excellence and luxury.

Why Egyptian Cotton?

Using only the finest Egyptian Cotton sourced directly from the Nile Delta region of Egypt.

With its rich soil and natural humidity produces a unique and lustrous growth of cotton, considered to be the world's best fibres.

Egyptian cotton is ideal for use in bed linen because it 'breathes', is free from static which attracts dust and thrives upon frequent washing and use.

The superior long staple length of cotton fibres allows the spinning of exceptionally fine yarns.

These fine yarns produce extremely soft, yet durable cloth for which to base the finest linen on.

Peter Reed bedding is made entirely from specially selected, highest quality combed yarns.

Prior to spinning, any shorter cotton fibres are removed during the combing process.

This ensures that the yarns are spun from only the longest fibres present in the cotton harvest.

Enhancing the softness of the finished product, percale standard as a minimum requirement with such high quality products.

Expertly Woven

Peter Reed only use the finest yarns to produce high quality bedding, producing some of the very best high thread count Egyptian cotton.

The thread count of a cloth is the number of intersections of yarns (Warp and Weft) in an area of one square inch.

Linen with more than 180 threads per square inch are termed a percale fabric, and more than 250 per square inch 'Super Fine Percales'.

Super Fine thread counts are quoted after natural washing shrinkage has occurred.

Thread counts relating to cloths which contain multi-ply yarns can be misleading as they do not reflect a pure measure of intersections in the weave.

Peter Reed sheeting constructions have been produced over many years and are established as industry and hotel standard qualities. The standard range includes thread counts of 180 , 220 , 400 and 540.

Quality right from the start

Peter Reed sheets are chlorite bleached in traditional kiers using soft water.

This slow process produces a full white bleach, which will not yellow with age as can happen with textiles which are peroxide bleached

More conventional and lesser quality cotton bedding products do not have this process.

Craftsmanship is at the heart of everything that Peter Reed produce.

All Egyptian cotton sheets are finished with a dedicated woven selvedge, where possible, rather than being sewn around all four hems.

A woven selvedge is formed when the fabric is in the loom and provides a strong and clean edge to the cloth, which will outlast a sewn hem in laundering.

Made in the UK

Wholly produced in the UK guarantees perfection.

Utilising years of experience in the textiles industry has culminated in the finest Egyptian Cotton Bedding you can buy

So much so Peter Reed has proudly been awarded a Royal Warrant of Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen in January 2008 as manufacturers of bed linen.

Cotton is a natural product and can sometimes shrink

You can be rest assured that all Peter Reed flat sheets are made with high allowances for shrinkage which ensures adequate tuck-in is available for extra deep mattresses.

All of the king size sheets and super king sheets are generously sized.

Look after your sheets

During the first few washing cycles shrinkage can occur in some fitted sheets and duvet covers.

We allow up to for 5-8% for this as some fabrics with embroideries will shrink less than others.

In line with industry standard practice, flat sheets and pillowcases are labelled with actual sewn sizes.

Whereas fitted sheets, valances and duvet covers are labelled with residual size after expected shrinkage.

Peter Reed fitted sheets are made with a generous gusset which will accommodate mattresses up to 25cm deep mattresses, deeper mattress box depths are available on request.

Attention to detail

Luxury is not all about just the fabric, little details such as the hems make all the difference.

All Peter Reed Egyptian Cotton Sheets have hems that are sewn with at least 12 stitches per inch to ensure durability throughout the laundering life of the article.

Our 1¼" wide bottom hem and 3" wide top hem provide a rich finish to the sheets and help them to be ironed more easily by hand or calendaring machine.

Another touch of class to tempt you is that all the ranges are finished with classic cord stitching which is sewn with 28 stitches per inch.

Row Cord Bed Linen

In the days when all linens were bleached white, differing numbers of rows of cord stitching were applied to help identify the various grades of sheets.

Luxury Peter Reed Bed Linens continue this tradition today with extra rows of cording for higher thread count cloths, this is still in use today in the luxury hotel sector.

To ensure that the quality will last for many years to come Peter Reed duvet covers and standard pillowcases are finished with a double over lock and safety stitch.

Essential for long durability when laundering and ensures a pristine presentation when dressing your bed.

Craftsmanship and Quality

Other pillowslips such as the 'Oxford style' pillowcases are sewn with traditional mitred corners throughout.

Their construction requires assembly of three separate pieces of fabric and skillful sewing.

The end result is a flange which supports itself at the corners when placed on the bed.

Unlike the simpler 'mock' Oxford construction which uses a larger piece of material and is sewn through the fabric to create an oxford style effect a simple and less expensive manufacturing process.

The Peter Reed three piece construction looks like no other pillowcases, simply elegant with a touch of class.

Taking Care

Caring for your linen is very important.

Every piece of bedding has its own wash care label with both European and US standard instructions.

Good cotton can be washed frequently at a high temperature.

Use a low concentrate detergent to protect the linen.

Ironing is always recommended while the sheets are still slightly damp and always iron on the reverse side of the embroidered areas for superb results.
